Weather bureau monitoring two LPAs

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration is closely monitoring two low-pressure areas, one of which is brewing to develop into a tropical depression next week.

In an interview, Lorie dela Cruz, weather forecaster, said the first LPA was spotted at 95 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, “or inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.”

Because of this weather system, Mindanao would experience scattered to light or moderate rain showers in the next 24 hours.

“The other one was estimated at 3,000 kms east of Mindanao, or outside the PAR within the Pacific Ocean,” Dela Cruz told the Manila Standard.

“This one is likely to become a tropical depression to be named ‘Samuel,’” she said.

“We expect the tropical depression to enter the PAR on Sunday evening or Monday morning,” she added.

If it does not change its direction, “Samuel” could affect Mindanao and the Visayas, she cited.
