Three-time Tour de France green jersey winner Robbie McEwen sets out for another fun ride with beginners and bike enthusiasts as he leads the Sun Life Cycle PH at the 30th Ave. at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on Saturday.
The Aussie cycling legend has graced the non-competitive event aimed at promoting awareness on keeping a healthy lifestyle the last five years, getting quite impressed on the improvements on the local cycling scene after riding alongside a former junior national cycling team member and a number of celebrities in the long ride (40km) last year.
“Looking at them at times riding along at 40-km an hour and they look completely comfortable, it’s obvious to me that the level of Filipino riders over the last few years has really improved. I can see them more at ease with the bike and riding faster, looking stronger,” said McEwen.
He is again expected to inspire the young riders from among the thousands of participants set see action in three categories—the Kids Ride, Short Ride (20K) and Long Ride (40K) around Taguig, Makati, Manila and Pasay.
The event, also aimed at promoting family bonding and encouraging people to live healthier lives, will be launched Friday simultaneous with the Expo Open and press conference and the ride kit claiming at SEDA BGC Hotel.
Six hundred three riders have so far registered for the 40km ride of the event organized by Sunrise Events, Inc. while the 20km and kids categories have lured 392 and 100 participants, respectively.
