QC Basketball League to use SBP referees in inaugural conference

The Quezon City Basketball League will employ the services of the referees’ pool and table officials from Samahang Basketball Technical Commission to ensure an orderly conduct of the games for its inaugural Corporate conference set from November to January.

QCBL Operations head Oliver Bunyi said officiating always plays a major factor in establishing the integrity of a basketball league.

“We don’t want to take any chances in terms of officiating, so we have partnered with the SBP officiating team for our first conference.”

The SBP will make available 10 FIBA referees and 40 SBP national referees for the QCBL, headed by Executive Director BJ Manalo, a former De La Salle University archer and team official in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“We believe in the fairness, honesty and high-quality of officiating of the SBP and FIBA referees. I’m sure the team owners in our league will be very happy with this development,” said Manalo.

QCBL officials will have a general meeting today with the team owners from the three different divisions–the Starters, Cadets and Open.

All the eight teams in the Starters have already confirmed to send their representatives. The teams are Regalado Vet, Bendovah Bully Camp, Insignia Builders, Dr. Ds Dental, HE Photography, Gold’s Gym, Nemesis, EAs Taste of Asia.

Confirmed to attend in the Open and Cadet divisions are St. Clare, Emilio Aguinaldo College, One Top Medical, Shoemakers, Team Kyzox, SV Aces, SSI Metal and Hiper. Schools will be represented by corporate sponsors.

The QCBL aims to develop a complete basketball program for the growing youth population in Quezon City, the biggest city in Metro Manila in terms of land area and population.

“We’re not really competing against other leagues. In fact, we want to work with them para ma-develop pa ‘yung mga future na manlalaro ng basketball, and at the same time, opportunity for us na makakita ng future coaches at future basketball players.”

QCBL games will be held at the JCR gym at FEU-NRMF in Fairview.
