Sean Ramos hopes to ride the momentum of his wire-to-wire triumph in Canlubang Amateur Open last week as he seeks for another crown in the Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championship, which gets going Friday at Beverly Place Golf Club in Pampanga.
But the Orchard bet braces for a fierce challenge from host of rivals, including Aguinaldo’s Masaichi Otake, who placed third in Cangolf, Weiyu Gao of Alta Vista, The Cliffs’ Chester Calpotura, Canlubang’s Carlo Villaroman, Southwoods’ David Guangko, Jet Hernandez of Alabang/Orchard and Rald Sarmiento, also of Aguinaldo.
Ramos’ Orchard teammates Joaquin Gomez and Kim Tae Soo are also vying in the 54-hole tournament serving as part of the PLDT Group’s National Amateur Golf Tour organized and conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines.
Duque, who finished third in the ladies division in Cangolf Am won by Nicole Abelar, looms as the player to watch in the Elite women’s division which also drew Sophia Blanco, Kristine Fleetwood, Junia Gabasa, Weifang Gao, Shin Seo Yun and Sunshine Zhang.
Other titles to be disputed over 36 holes on Oct. 13-14 are Group I (5-12 handicap) and Group II (13 and above) in men’s division, both gross stroke and net competitions.
