BoC destroys smuggled used tires, household items in Bulacan

The Bureau of Customs destroyed at least P1 million worth of seized smuggled used tires, used household and personal effects in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

The destruction of the condemned shipments was part of the government’s policy to destroy seized smuggled products, particularly second hand or expired goods to protect the public from further harm.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said the destruction was made to make sure that the items would not be released to the market.

Used tires are prohibited from being brought into the country as provided in the Letter of Instruction No. 1086, Series of 1980.

Meanwhile, the used household and personal effects had been abandoned by the consignee and subsequently forfeited in favor of the government.

The destruction of the abandoned and forfeited goods was led by lawyer Enrico A. Turingan, deputy collector for Operations of the Port of Subic.

The said items were shredded and disposed of in the facility of EPY-ECO Auction and Waste Disposal Services, the accredited service provider of the Port of Subic for the condemnation of contrabands and abandoned goods.
