General Trias City, Cavite—Around 330 pets (dogs and cats) were given an anti-rabies shot and were dewormed by the city agriculture office (CAO) last Sunday, September 30, at the City Plaza grounds in celebration of World Rabies Day.
Male cats and dogs were also neutered to help control animal population in the city as part of the project of Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer, said Nerie Marquez of CAO and Lani Balanag of the city information office (CIO).
The provincial veterinarian office led by Dr. Gloria Digma helped in the neutering and vaccination.The CIO distributed freebies to pets after the vaccination.
"Next year po, mas marami pang program ang naka-line up, We are planning to invite mobile pet grooming van and pet-related shops to participate in the annual program for pets," said Lani Balanag.
Fr. Oliver Genuino led the blessing of pet animals in front of the St. Francis of Assisi church at 8:30 a.m. the feast day of the patron saint of pet animals, St. Francis of Assisi.
Mayor Ferrer, Congressman Jon Jon Ferrer, Vice Mayor Morit Sison, and city councilors witnessed the designation of Fr. Genuino as the new parish priest of St Francis church by Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista.
Baptismal certificates were given to pet owners by the local government.
Special awards were given to Rochelle Cea from Brgy Governor Ferrer for the most number of pets brought to the event and Monique Santiagel from Brgy. Bagumbayan for being the first to arrive at the event place. The two received gift packs from the LGU.
