Except in Marawi, no more extension for voter listup

THE Commission on Elections said Friday there will be no extension of the voter registration period for next year’s elections that ends  today, Saturday.

The Comelec also said the special voter registration for Marawi City had been set for next month.

But Senator Francis Pangilinan said the typhoons that hit the country in the last few months should prompt the Comelec to extend the voter registration period for the 2019 midterm elections.

“We urge the Comelec to give the Filipinos one more week to register and be given the opportunity to exercise their right in choosing the country’s next leaders,” Pangilinan said in a statement.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the continuing registration of voters for the May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections resumed on July 2 this year.

“We call on the public to exercise patience as the long queues are to be expected in the last few days of registration,” Jimenez said.

“The members of the vulnerable sectors such as Senior Citizens, Persons with Disability and heavily pregnant women will have priority lanes provided for them.”

Registrants may proceed to the Office of the Election Officer in their respective city, municipality or district or any satellite registration site in their area from 8 am to 5 pm.

“The schedules of satellite registration activities nationwide are posted on the official Facebook page of the Comelec,” Jimenez said. With PNA
