Blogger Olivar in trouble over suicide video

Drew Olivar’s controversial videos once again landed him in hot water after mental health advocates slammed the Pro-Duterte blogger for encouraging student-activists to commit suicide.

Youth for Mental Health Coalition chairman Dr. Raymond John Naguit called out Olivar’s old vlog for encouraging student-activists of the University of the Philippines to just “hang themselves” from the school’s symbolic Oblation statue.

On Tuesday, Naguit took to social media, saying Oliver’s remarks “leaves a bad taste in the mouth” for those who lost friends and loved ones due to suicide and depression.

The Y4MH chairman noted that mental health advocacy groups put efforts to fight the stigma and promote responsible means of reporting cases of mental health.

“It is just to demand that we give the topics suicide and self-harm the appropriate seriousness and society that they deserve,” he said.

Naguit mentioned Olivar’s involvement in a series of controversies including the lewd federalism dance video, an illegal bomb scare post, and a video mocking the persons with disabilities and sign language.

Even with a public apology, the Philippine National Police said Olivar still faces a complaint for inciting a possible bombing incident in the country.

The Department of Justice, however, did not accept the National Capital Region Police Office’s complaint due to lack of evidence.

“We still need to coordinate with our Anti-Cybercrime Unit to complete the evidence for the filing, referral of the case against Olivar at the DOJ,” NCRPO Public Information Office Senior Inspector Myrna Diploma said.
