It’s been less than a month since Crazy Rich Asians was released in the Philippines (Aug. 22), and the Chinese cover of Coldplay’s 2000 song “Yellow”, which plays over the final scenes of the movie, has reached number one on the Spotify Viral 50 Global and Philippines charts.

The single is also number one in the USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore Viral 50 charts. Currently, “Yellow” is the No. 2 spot on the local Viral 50 chart.

Recorded by Katherine Ho, a 19-year-old Chinese American who competed on the tenth season of The Voice (US), the iconic song almost didn’t make the final cut till the band approved the request within 24 hours of a heartfelt email from Director Jon M. Chu on what the song meant to the Asian community.

The song, inspired by Li Wenqi who performed the song on The Voice of China, is also featured on the official Crazy Rich Asians (Original Motion Picture soundtrack) page on Spotify
