Ken Chan takes on a challenging role in GMA Network's 'My Special Tatay,' a series about a man with Mild Intellectual Disability with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Kapuso star is all set to portray the role of a man with Mild Intellectual Disability with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder who tries to win over world’s challenges despite internal struggles.

“I’m very thankful to GMA dahil ipinagkatiwala sa akin ang proyektong ito. I am excited because they gave me another chance to portray a very challenging character,” the actor said expressing his gratitude to GMA for trusting him to play a tough role in the extraordinary project.

After his recent performance in The Cure, in which he played the role of a doctor named “Josh Lazaro”, and his stellar acting in Destiny Rose, Chan is ready to essay another arduous role as Boyet.

“Mas doble ang kaba ko for this show dahil kailangan nating ipaintindi sa viewers kung ano ba talaga ang pinagdaraanan ng mga taong may intellectual disability,” he shared.

The actor, together with the production and the creative team of the soap, went through acting workshops and immersion to experience and to understand better the condition of people suffering from the condition.

Series centers on the life of Boyet, who grew up as a kind man with optimism. Obstacle tests him when he discovered that he has a child.

Director L.A. Madridejos, together with second unit director Conrado Peru, orchestrates the Kapuso series.

“We are offering something good to the table. We wanted to give our viewers an extraordinary story. In fact, apart from doing extensive research, and having specialists on board, whenever we do a scene, even though it’s already okay, we would make four to five versions because we wanted to make everything look and appear realistic,” Madridejos shared with MS Entertainment.

Served as part of the GMA’s My Special Nanay, the director cleared out the differences between the two series. In Nanay, Kris Bernal’s role has a severe condition while in Tatay, Chan’s character is considered mild for he is still aware of the social setting.

Also, Madridejos said that he is hands-on to every nuance of Chan’s acting. He also shared that the series consulted psychiatrists to have a more realistic approach to Chan’s character.

Joining the series are seasoned actors and actresses like Jestoni Alarcon, Teresa Loyzaga, Soledad Villarama, Lilet, and Candy Pangilinan, with the special guesting appearance of Matt Evans, Empress Schuck, Valeen Montenegro, and Ashley Rivera.

Also behind this engrossing drama is the creative team composed of creative director Roy Iglesias, concept creator and headwriter Agnes Uligan, creative head for Afternoon Prime Block Aloy Adlawan, writers Patrick Louie Lim Ilagan, Renei Patricia Dimla, Loi Argel R. Nova, brainstormers Liberty Trinidad, and Nehemiarey Debad Dallego.

The program is another original creation of the GMA Drama group under the supervision of Senior Vice President for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, Vice President for Drama Redgie Acuña-Magno, Assistant Vice President for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, and Program Manager Anthony Pastorpide.
