Napolcom okays expansion of PNP

The National Police Commission announced on Saturday it has approved the proposed expansion of the Philippine National Police.

The Napolcom signed Resolution 2018-437 last Aug. 29 giving the PNP the go signal to recruit 17,925 Police Officer 1 (PO1) to “replenish personnel losses, increase personnel strength, enhance police visibility, and improve police-to-population ratio to consequently improve the prevailing peace and order condition in the operational area covered by the respective Police Regional Offices (PROs) and National Support Units (NSUs).”

Commission Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Rogelio Casurao said that for 2018, the PNP will recruit 10,000 civilians for the regular recruitment quota and 7,925 new police officers for the attrition recruitment quota.

“Out of the 10,000 regular recruitment quota, 9,500 will be distributed to the Special Action Force [SAF] and the Public Safety Forces [PSFs] of all Police Regional Offices, except the National Capital Region Police Office, in order to strengthen their personnel complement, while the remaining 500 shall be allotted to selected PROs and NSUs to support their personnel build-up program,” said Casurao.

On the other hand, the attrition recruitment quota shall be distributed to PNP units/offices where police personnel were attrited in order to replenish their personnel complement, he added.

The newly appointed Police Officers shall undergo the Public Safety Basic Recruitment Course and Field Training Program pursuant to Section 19 of Republic Act 8551.

Casurao said that the Chiefs of PNP Offices/Units and members of the various Screening Committees, including the head and members of the Secretariat, are required to ensure strict compliance with the recruitment procedures and guarantee the appointment of the best and most qualified police personnel, otherwise, they would be subjected to administrative sanctions.
