PH SEA Games to hold eSports?

Jakarta—Officials of Asian Electronic Sports Federation are optimistic that electronic sports or eSports will be included in the 30th edition of the South East Asian Games that will be hosted by the Philippines in 2019.

Kenneth Fok, president of AESF during a press conference at the Jakarta Main Press Center, said that they are now communicating with the Philippine Olympic Committee and will present a proposal for the staging for the first time of the eSports in the SEA Games.

“I could not divulge any details now but we are communicating with the Philippines and will attend a meeting with the South East Asian Games Federation in October,” sabi Fok, who was joined by Eddy Lim, president of the Indonesian eSports Association and Santi Lonthong of Thailand eSports Association.

Games of the eSports had drawn many viewers and supporters that include China’s basketball superstar Yao Ming, who likes playing League of Legend, according to Fok.

The Philippines will host for the fourth time the regional mutli-sport meet SEA Games in November, 2019.

Eight SEA countries had confirmed their support for the staging of the eSports in the 30th SEA Games.
