Guevarra asks Peter Lim to surrender as manhunt hits snag

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Wednesday called on Cebuano businessman Peter Lim to turn himself in and face the drug trading conspiracy case filed against him before a Makati City Regional Trial Court.

“There is a legal doctrine that flight is an indication—although not conclusive—of one’s guilt,” Guevarra said, even as he reminded Lim, who is now considered a fugitive, of possible repercussions of his hiding.

The Justice secretary said the hunt for Lim by Philippine National Police and National Bureau of Investigation operatives continues since the Makati City RTC Branch 65 ordered his arrest last Aug. 14 or after 16 days.

“Too bad the PNP and the NBI have yet to find some leads as to his whereabouts,” Guevarra lamented.

According to him, Lim could still be in the country because based on records of the Bureau of Immigration has not left the country. The RTC has also issued a hold departure order against the businessman that should prevent him from leaving the country.
