When songwriter/singer/comedian Ogie Alcasid sings, everybody listens, and they do quietly as if trying to absorb each note in the whole musical piece, apart from trying to feel the meaning of the lyric.
His songwriting talent has made him perhaps one of the most long-lasting performers in the local music carousel, spanning three decades of writing and singing as well.
To mark those 30 glorious years, he is holding an anniversary concert on Aug. 24 at th4 Smart Araneta Coliseum. And to make the occasion even more splendid, he will be accompanied on stage by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
“We will have a big fiesta atmosphere during the opening number, with 80 to 100 people [performing] on stage,” shared the ultimate singer-songwriter. “We wanted to celebrate everything that’s Filipino.”
Ogie collaborated with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 for his OPM tribute album Nakakalokal.
His wife Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, for whom he wrote a number of songs that became chartbusters, joins him in the show as a special guest along with the couple’s friend, Vice Ganda.
Also in the OPM icon’s much-awaited show are Rey Valera, Michael V, Janno Gibbs, Yeng Constantino, Moira dela Torre, Leila Alcasid, Sarah Alcasid, Nate Alcasid, Ban Sot Mee, and the Hotlegs.
Paolo Valenciano directs with Gerard Salonga taking charge of the music direction of the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, also as conductor.
Ogie’s first hit in 1988 was “Nandito Ako.”
Star Events, ABS-CBN Events, and the A-Team are co-producing the concert with. PLDT Home and Belo Medical Group as presenters together with minor sponsors Transmodal International Inc., EO Executive Optical, and Jollibee.
Tickets are available at ticketnet.com.ph and are priced at P5,075 (VVIP with free “Nakakalokal” album), P3,710 (VIP), P3,180 (patron A), P2,650 (patron B), P1,590 (lower box), P745 (upper Box), and P425 (general admission). Call 911-5555 for ticket inquiries.
