The Metro Manila Development Authority announced on Friday the resumption of road reblocking and other repairs along major thoroughfares in Manila and Quezon City.

The Department of Public Works and Highways resumed the road works Friday night after the MMDA gave its go signal for the road works.

At the same time, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the Adriatico Bridge was now open to traffic after undergoing repair and rehabilitation for almost a year which collapsed due to a parked overloaded garbage truck.

Villar said the 33-year-old bridge, which collapsed in September last year, was also widened to six lanes to accommodate the growing number of vehicles passing through the bridge.

In its advisory, the MMDA public information office stated that the DPWH National Capital Region Office would undertake road reblocking and repairs starting 11 pm of Aug. 10 until 5 am of Aug. 13 at the following areas in:

Quezon City

• Southbound 3rd lane from the center island of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue infront of Francesca Tower.

• Northbound 6th lane from center island of Edsa before North Avenue

• Northbound 3rd lane of Fairview Avenue from Mindanao Avenue Extension to Jordan Plains Subdivision, and Jordan Plains Subdivision to Mindanao Avenue. Extension.

• Northbound 2nd lane of Batasan Road before Payatas Road, and

• Northbound 1st lane of Katipunan Avenue between Capitol Hills Drive Ayala Heights Village.

Manila

• Northbound lane of Arsenio H. Lacson Avenue from Aragon Street to P. Florentino Street.

“All affected roads will be fully passable by 5 am on Monday. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected areas and use alternate routes instead,” the MMDA-PIO advisory stated.

The government is implementing a policy prohibiting diggings and other roadworks at daytime following the MMDA meeting with officials of the departments of Transportation, and Public Works and Highways to further improve the flow of traffic in the metropolis.

Under the policy, road repairs and rehabilitation on major thoroughfares must be done by contractors around 10 pm to make sure that the road will be passable to motorists by 5 am the next day.
