Marshalls turn back Green Archers in Martin Cup

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa Marshalls, behind Buboy Barnedo’s heroics, stunned the De La Salle University Green Archers, 85-83, over the weekend in the 16th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament.

The 5’7” Barnedo scored the winning basket in the last 4.6 seconds, sending the Marshalls to their third straight victory when action ended at the St. Placid gymnasium inside San Beda-Manila campus in Mendiola.

Christian Alijecera went on topscore with 23 points for the Marshalls, who moved into the solo lead of Group A in the senior division.

Cebuano recruit Christian Manaytay fired a game-high 20 points for the Green Archers, who took their first loss in two games.

Adamson transferee Kurt Lojera drove past Barnedo in the remaining 12.8 seconds, allowing La Salle to force an 83-all deadlock.

In other games, Marc Diputado unloaded 18 points for National University-A when the Bulldogs demolished St. Joseph College-Bulacan, 99-77, and improved their record in Group A to 2-1.

In the junior division, JC Luciano made 15 for Chiang Kai Shek College in their 100-61 swamping of San Beda-Mendiola A.

La Consolacion College-Manila won over the Mapua Red Robins, 68-63, for its second consecutive triumph in another senior encounter.

LCCM prevailed over the Malayan Red Robins, 90-46, while University of Santo Tomas outplayed San Beda-Manila B, 87-78, in the junior side.

The San Sebastian Staglets posted their first win after disposing of Philippine Christian College

The University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas downed NU-B, 82-74, in another junior match.
