100 immigration officers hired

The Bureau of Immigration hired at least 100 new Immigration officers who will be deployed to the different international airports and sub-ports to augment its manpower and improve its service to the traveling public.

“They will have to go through rigorous training for several months under our Center for Training and Research before they could be deployed to the various airports and seaports,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Friday.

The new employees will soon be dispatched to the Philippine Immigration Academy in Clark, Pampanga where they will initially undergo two-month training on immigration laws, rules and procedures.

“Afterwards, they will undergo on-the-job training on immigration formalities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and on frontline service functions at our main office,” Morente said.

BI OIC Deputy Commissioner and POD Chief Marc Red Mariñas welcomed the hiring of the new immigration officers, saying “their joining the bureau will surely usher in a marked improvement in our services to the traveling public.”

Mariñas said the bulk of the new employees would be deployed to the Naia which is still in need of personnel who will perform primary inspection duties at the airport’s immigration arrival and departure counters.

“The lack of manpower continues to impede our delivery of efficient services,” he said.

“We intend to employ more immigration officers in the next several months to strengthen our border security and provide a fast and smooth processing to the traveling public.”
