Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson said Thursday she is willing to accept Senator Nancy Binay's invitation as a resource speaker on federalism upon the advice of the consultative committee.
“I express my gratitude to Sen. Nancy for considering me as a resource person/speaker [in the Senate],” said Uson, adding that she will still have to deliberate the matter with Con-Com spokesman Ding Generoso.
“I cannot say anything yet as we will still have a brainstorming [activity] with Con-Com spokesperson Ding Generoso,” she said.
She added that her appearance before the senators as a resource speaker on federalism also depends on the result of the brainstorming on Friday.
“Let us see and wait for the advice of the Con-Com,” Uson said.
Binay’s extended the invitation to Uson after the Con-Com, which tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to review the 1987 Constitution, said it would likely tap Uson to be at the forefront of a nationwide information drive on federalism and Charter change.
Binay said Wednesday she would recommend to Senator Francis Pangilinan, chairman of the committee on constitutional amendments, to request the presence of Uson as one of the resource speakers in the subsequent hearings on Charter change.
“Being the designated messenger, we also wanted to hear how she would articulate or interpret the salient points of the proposed federal charter and explain to the people how a shift in the form of government could move the country forward,” Binay said.
Binay said it is imperative for Uson to relay the message clearly to the people.
“Clarity and knowledge about the subject are equally important elements. It is also a matter of providing the people of options or an informed choice for them to genuinely know what’s good and bad about changing the form of government,” Binay said.
Meanwhile, Uson said that she would use the social media in order to contribute with the said information drive.
“We will simplify the explanations [on Charter change and federalism] to the people through [the use of] social media,” said Uson.
“I urge the ordinary Filipinos to understand why the President believes in federalism. They should understand it and they will be the ones to say if this will help the country. If the majority believes that the President is right, then why don't we try it,” she rhetorically asked in Filipino.
Uson, an avid supporter of the President, has been accused of purveying false information through her 5.6- million followers on social media.
The dancer-turned-government official will also be starring in the anti-illegal drug film titled “Kabigan” that aims to tackle the problems on illegal drugs and its adverse effects on families.
