Singson promises coaches, exposure for PH shooters

Good coaches, competitive foreign exposure and a good supply of ammunition will help members of the national team sharpen their skills and the Philippine National Shooting Association develop its programs at the elite and the grassroots level.

Newly installed PNSA president Luis “Chavit” Singson said this following his induction and members of the board last Monday with Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas at the POC office in Pasig last Monday.

“I fully support them by providing them with ammunition and coaches. Kailangan nila ang suporta ko,” said Singson, a former governor of Ilocos Sur and a shooting hobbyist.

As a show of sincerity and care of the shooting community, Singson signed a a check amounting to P435,761.25 before the oathtaking of members of the PNSA board and handed it over to newly appointed secretary general, retired Brig. Gen. Francisco Gudani.

The check will pay for the PNSA’s unliquidated expenses, which the past administration owes the Philippine Sports Commission.

This paves the way for the release for the PSC’s financial assistance to its Asian Games-bound athletes, and the P10 million that the PSC is providing the PNSA for its programs and equipment needs.

Gudani said the PSC refused to release funding to them after they got a demand latter from the Commission on Audit.

He said the unliquidated funds were acquired way back in the 2004 and 2005 and not by the previous administration of outgoing PNSA chief Richard Fernandez.

The unliquidated amount, according to Gudani, has nothing to do with the present set officials.

“Now we can get funding from the PSC because of this. We have not thought of confronting the past administration because of this. We just wish to have reconciliation with them,” said Ronaldo Hejastro, vice president for sports.

Also named to the board are Gudani, Hejastro, Josefina Alvero, Frumencia Lagustan, Delia Quidato, James Chua, Inocencia Dionesia, Severino Villarama, Herman de los Santos, Marilu Samaco, Jerry Sun and Jerwin Ching.
