Martha and the Vandellas chirped their way to stardom with these lines and even the late, great David Bowie and Mick Jagger injected a sensuality to it, “All we need is music, sweet music, there’ll be music everywhere,” adding to these lyrical truths, a spoonful of laughter, what produce do we get from such a combination?
For sure, you cannot help but wonder who will be the strong men capable of bringing a harvest of songs and guffaws?
Wonder no more, dear MS Entertainment readers, as Willie Nepomuceno and Nonoy Zuniga headline the perfect fusion and frenzy in Music and Laughter, which takes center stage at the Theatre at Solaire on Saturday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m..
We get to watch the Foremost Balladeer and King of Impressionism by their lonesome, or with other artists. In this one-night-only shindig under the direction of Joey Nombres, the Filipino performing icons are coming together with a promise to all of an exhilarating and enchanted evening filled with sweet music and rip-roaring laughter.
Balladeer Nonoy states, “It’s my first time to work with him in a show that is not in a corporate event. Masaya at masarap sa pakiramdam na we’re going to perform together.”
“Nonoy is a naturally funny guy,” Willie declares. “He has the ability to make people laugh without him being aware of it. He is witty and even in our private moments when we do corporate shows or performances abroad, we would exchange jokes, pati sarili niya napagtatawanan niya, he is so down to earth and good natured.”
Willie carries on, “His songs appeal to all ages because their themes are universal. Of his many songs, I particularly fancy his ‘I’ll Never Ever Say Goodbye’ because everyone somehow passes through that sentimental episode in life.”
The difference of Music and Laughter is crystal, the balladeer says, “Most of the times we’re all singers in a show. We have solo spots and then we are grouped. This time, I’m sharing the stage with the master impressionist who is also a comedian. Perfect pa ang impersonation. Lahat halos yata, he can impersonate. Hindi lang mga tao, even inanimate objects. He truly is a genius.”
Willie’s take on what makes their show distinct, “It offers pleasant entertainment and engaging humor. It is a magical combination that allows us to be nostalgic of the good times, and hopeful of the future.”
Fresh and definitely exciting, this artistic collaboration Nonoy avers, “Of course, they will get to hear my hits, some songs from other artists like Don McLean and James Taylor which I truly love. For millennials, we have Ed Sheeran.”
On Willie’s end, “No political satires this time but what they will see are characters or people given life by me in real time situations.”
Willie and Nonoy are most vocal about their collective wish for more original Filipino compositions and songs for public consumption and appreciation. They wish that the government make new measures so that these new compositions will get the airtime in radio stations.
Nonoy declares, “Kailangan ang support talaga para mag-flourish pa lalo ang OPM. Hindi lang Tagalog o English songs ang dapat naririnig sa radyo. It’s about time to open it up to other dialects.”
Willie concludes with an invitation, “See you at the Theatre at Solaire. Please give us your love and support. Be part of a communal experience that is Music and Laughter. Yes, there is humor that pinches and punches and songs that bring happiness to all.”
