International experts to speak at PH sports confab

The Asian Association for Sport Management and Sport Management Council of the Philippines (SportPhil) are staging the 14th Asian Association for Sport Management Conference on Aug. 2 to 4, 2018 at De La Salle University, Manila.

The conference will revolve around the main theme of ‘Discovering and Developing the Sport Industry Potential in Asia’ which will include keynotes speeches from local and international experts in the world of sports management, sport marketing, sport development, and sport entrepreneurship. 

It is expected to gather international delegates from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the rest of Southeast Asia, and more than 500 local participants composing of teachers, students, and coaches from UAAP and NCAA schools, as well as schools outside of Metro Manila.

Among the speakers who are expected to lend their experience and expertise to the confab are Troy University’s Dr. Packianathan Chelladurai, who will talk about Critical Factors Behind Pursuit of Excellence in International Sport; Dr. David Stotlar, who will discuss Making Dollars and Sense of Sponsorship and Fan Engagement; and Dr. Munehiko Harada, Japan Sport Tourism Alliance Chairman, who is expected to tackle sports management, marketing, tourism and leisure studies.

In a brief press conference at the Start Up Village Conference Hall, 5th Floor, Alphaland Makati Place, the proponents of the Sport Management Conference also shared a short teaser of what to expect in the three-day management seminar.

Other than the need grassroots programs, sports academy, and suitable infrastructure for sporting events, Sport Management Council of the Philippines head and member of De La Salle University faculty Geraldine Bernardo spilled the beans to the media on how the sports industry is a multi-billion dollar business becomes a viable enterprise.

Associate Professor Lordinio Vergara of Philippine Normal University explained his insights regarding the proper accreditation of sports professionals and the significance of sports in the educational system in the country.
