Is there any specific formula to make it big in the music business?

At the media launch of The Clash, local television’s newest singing competition, host Regine Velasquez –Alcasid tried to answer the question. Her response, which also served as an advice not just to the contestants of the show but also to anyone who aspires to be in the industry, was plain and simple—be original.

“No one will ever be the next Christian Bautista or Lani Misalucha. You make your mark in the business. You don’t follow someone else’s career path. You can emulate someone but you will have to create your own mark. It’s better that way,” Regine said with reference to two music artists who will sit on the judging panel of the new show.

Christian, who was also present at the media launch together with Lani and AiAi delas Alas as another judge,  explained that aspiring singers should have a specific goal and being a copycat of an established singer should be out of the whole equation.

As for winning the competition, Regine could only tell the contestants to calm their nerves especially when they’re performing on stage.

“In a competition like this, your self will be your own enemy. Obviously, everybody is good and has an experience in singing competitions. You just have to learn how to overcome your stage fright, the nervousness that you feel when you’re in front of the audience because that’s what will make the difference. Your voice changes when you’re nervous,” stated The Clash host.

The singing competition, which according to the Songbird is looking for the next singing star and not necessarily someone who would be a versatile television talent, will premiere tonight on GMA-7.

“We’ll run for 14 weeks and everyone will be given challenges, which means contestants wouldn’t be able to stay in their comfort zone. It will challenge them to be versatile performers,” Regine shared.

In its premiere, telecast the program introduces the Top 62 clashers who will compete in intense one-on-one battles and outdo each other to become the country’s next singing sensation.

These Clashers are the product of several auditions that kicked off in Gaisano Island Mall Mactan in Cebu City on Feb. 17, followed by two regional auditions at Sunshine Park in Baguio City on Feb. 24, and at The Annex Event Center in SM City Davao on March 10 before the last leg that took place at SM North Edsa on March 17.

Kapuso network's newest singing competition 'The Clash' headlined by Asia's songbird Regine Velasquez premieres tomorrow night.

In the show, Regine leads the toughest, fiercest and most talented hopefuls in a cutthroat and head to head encounter every week.

“We are not looking for an all-around star here. We are looking for someone who has the talent and the voice to be a recording star. It’s a singing contest, to begin with. It’s not a talent reality show where the winner eventually becomes an actor and performer,” the seasoned chanteuse explained.

Joining Regine and the rest of the judges are Andre Paras and Joyce Pring who will give updates on the aspirants’ quest for musical stardom.

Under the helm of director Louie Ignacio, The Clash airs every Saturday and Sunday night. For more information, follow its Facebook page @TheClashGMA.
