The Dangerous Drugs Board and the Department of the Interior and Local Government vowed to renew their partnership in the regular conduct of training and orientation to strengthen anti-drug abuse councils of every local government unit.

Now on its fourth leg, the training is still being conducted in Cebu City starting July 3 until July 5 for local government officers from Regions 6, 7 and 8.

Assistant Secretary Walter Besas cited the significant role of anti-drug councils in drug prevention and control.

“We place communities at the center of all our anti-drug efforts. The DDB believes the most effective interventions are the ones that emanate from the community, carried out by the community, for the community,” he said.

The program is part of the series of training orientation for local government operations officers in line with the implementation of DDB-DILG Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01 on the implementing guidelines of the functionality and effectiveness of local anti-drug abuse councils.

All local governments are required to have their own anti-drug abuse councils to ensure that all programs of drug prevention and control are implemented down to the barangay level.
