Recognizing the treatment needs of the “special population” among patients would definitely augment the success of their therapy, Manila Doctors Hospital Department of Internal Medicine chairperson Dr. Petrach Bravo said.
Bravo said these groups of patients include the pregnant, the obese and the elderly, those with work-related conditions and sexually-transmitted diseases, and the economically-depressed.
The intriguing issues involving the special population patients was the focus of the hospital’s Internal Medicine annual post-graduate course, which is now on its 15th year.
“Our commitment is to teach, lead and serve our people (patients) with hearts and mind,” Bravo said.
The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Mario Juco, said healthcare professionals and personnel should provide the best care to the society’s “most vulnerable.”
He said they are expected to be able to deliver extra mile service in dealing with the special population patients.
“The more we know about the specifics of our profession, the more we can better improve health care’s big picture through their specializations and address the exact case of every patient. By research and practice, we can prevent the onset of chaos,” Juco said.
Dr. Anthony Leachon, president of the MDH Medical Staff Association, described the event as a huge success.
