Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has called on over 7,000 newly-elected barangay officials to perform their duties in accordance with the mandate of their respective positions and help bring back the “Glory of Manila.”

During the oathtaking ceremony of the new barangay chieftains held at the PICC on June 30, Estrada exhorted them to help maintain peace and order in the city and perform their task to serve their respective communities.

“Election period is over, it’s time, it’s time to work hard, work with honor, and work with commitment,” the Manila chief executive said.

WATER PROJECT. Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada attends the ceremonial launching of the irrigation project in Isla Puting Bato, Tondo on Thursday. Addressing the supply of clear water for 150 families in the area, the city government allocated P11 million for this project, one of Estrada’s priority programs since 2016. With Mayor Estrada is City Engineer Roger Legaspi.

The former President officiated the oathtaking and asked barangay officials to join him in making the city a center of investments and tourism, to pave the way for the attainment of the city’s vision of a progressive Manila.

“By your collective efforts in responding to the individual needs of the barangay, you will help every Manileño who is in need of assistance such as security, health and education,” he said.

Estrada said Manila is currently facing numerous obstacles like traffic, illegal parking, and garbage.

As exponents of progress, the new barangay officials should do their sworn duties and execute more projects and programs for their communities, Estrada said.

The mayor admitted that he cannot solve the city’s problems alone and needs their support and cooperation.

To achieve their goal, Estrada said he vowed to increase the barangays’ budget, so they could implement more projects and programs to benefit thousands of Manilenos.

“I assure you, my doors are always open for dialogue especially for issues and concerns that affect Manilenos,” he added.
