Navotas launches eating, reading program for kids

Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco led the distribution of bread and read stories to 595 pupils of Dagat-dagatan Elementary School who will benefit from the city’s recently-launched Happy Eating and Reading Program.

Seoul International Friendship Organization and Catholic Businessmen’s Association of Korea will fund the supplemental feeding program for the whole school year, Tiangco said.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo will provide a Knowledge Truck mobile library to enhance the students’ love for reading and learning.

In another development, Navotas has gained a new set of skilled workers following the graduation of 433 trainees of Navotas Training and Assessment (NavotaAs) Institute.

Out of the 433, 355 were assessed by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and 353 passed.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco gives bread and later will read a story to some of the 595 pupils of Dagat-dagatan Elementary School, who will benefit from Navotas City’s ‘Happy Eating and Reading Program.’

In their respective speeches, Cong. Toby Tiangco and Mayor John Rey Tiangco shared secrets with the graduates on how to become successful.

“To have an edge in life, you must seek constant learning and self-improvement. Find out how you can be of more value to the organization you will work for or the clients you will serve,” the lawmaker said.

“Success is not achieved by just acquiring knowledge. You must also be dedicated and persevering in your work,” he added.

Mayor Tiangco stressed that aside from constant upgrading of skills and knowledge, it is important to have the right attitude towards work and to build good relationships.

“Practice strong work ethic. Be open to learning from your superiors and from others. It will take you places,” the younger Tiangco said.

“Your batch is composed of more than 400 trainees. Try befriending and building good relationships with them. A vast network of friends will be useful and might help you with your future endeavors,” he added.

Mayor Tiangco reminded the graduates that should they decide to further their training, they are welcome to enroll in other technical-vocational courses offered by the NavotaAs Institute.

He also noted that the city government is constructing two more training centers at Brgy. Daanghari and Brgy. North Bay Boulevard South-Kaunlaran. The centers will offer barista, wellness massage, animation, visual graphics, among others.

The mayor urged the graduates to avail of the city’s Tulong Puhunan and Tulong Negosyo programs should they want to pursue entrepreneurship. All they need is to inquire with the NavotaAs Hanapbuhay Center at the 2nd Floor of Navotas City Hall.
