Members of the LGBTQ community has once again demonstrated solidarity in pushing for a progressive change in the society; urging everyone to recognize their rights and to put an end to discrimination. Streets around the world were splashed with colors as the rainbow flag flew and the community marched together to show that love never loses; it always wins.
Metro Manila Pride 2018
Filipino LGBTQ community rises up together today as they take to the streets of Marikina to call each one of us to become advocates in creating a long-term change for a progressive society. With the theme “Rise Up Together,” today’s event features marches around the venue and several activities and performances by proud members of the community. An estimated 7,700 people, including actress Nora Aunor, participated in last year’s pride march, also held in Marikina.
New York City Pride March 2018
In this year’s pride march, with the theme “Defiantly Different,” New York City featured love for all genders. The event, held on June 24, showcased the unity and power of the community against the Trump administration’s oppressive remarks against the movement. With over 48,000 participants, including 100 floats and 2 million spectators on the streets, the city was filled with color and laughter as they celebrated love for everyone in the city that never sleeps.
Sao Paulo LGBT Pride Parade 2018
The largest gay pride parade in the world, held in city of Sao Paulo in Brazil, celebrated its 22nd anniversary on June 3. The parade featured the theme “Elections: Power for the LGBTI+ Our Vote, Our Voice,” which sought to influence the upcoming elections in Brazil. Sao Paulo is now considered to be one of the most gay-friendly cities in Latin America.
Madrid Pride 2018
The Madrid Gay Parade, locally known as Madrid Orgullo, will take place on Saturday, July 7, where over 1 million people are expected to attend as it is the last pride parade in Spain after Barcelona and Sitges. This year’s theme “We Pride Festival” will feature the talents of various LGBTQ+ influencers who use their voices to inspire the new generation. A series of events is happening from June 28 to July 8.
Berlin Gay Pride 2018
The Berlin Gay Pride, or more popularly known in Germany as the “Christopher Street Day,” will be held on July 28. It is one of the biggest European gay parades which has been held in the city since 1979. Unlike the merry atmosphere of another pride march, CSD is more of a political demonstration to commemorate the first homosexual uprising against police assaults at Stonewall Inn along Christopher Street in 1969. Even without the party and fun of other pride parades, this has always been a powerful moment for the LGBTQ+ community.
Tel Aviv Pride Parade 2018
With over 250,000 people who attended the annual parade Tel Aviv Pride Parade in Israel held on June 8, it is now considered the largest LGBT Pride Parade in Asia. Even though various political and religious entities tried to stop it, the parade still finds its way to get better and bigger every year. The popular parade is the 20th annual celebration. This year it attracted around 30,000 foreign tourists. Tel Aviv now holds the reputation as the “Gay Capital of the Middle East.”
