‘Salisi,’ smuggler strike at Naia

The notorious Salisi Gang struck again at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and is now using attractive women in luring unsuspecting air travelers.

The latest victim, 58-year-old Japanese national Tetsuya Makita, missed a flight to Narita while his luggage went missing following a “delightful” conversation with three women at the Naia Terminal 1 in the afternoon of June 16.

Since then, Makita has been staying at the airport police quarters because the missing luggage also contained his travel passport, mobile phone, 50,000 yen (about P24,000), and other important documents.

Meanwhile, Immigration authorities intercepted a Chinese national and his Filipina companion who tried to pass themselves as a couple in a bid to leave the country for China at Naia.

Marc Red Mariñas, Immigration Officer-in-Charge Deputy Commissioner, and BI Port Operations chief, said the two passengers were about to board a Cebu Pacific flight to Xiamen when they were stopped at the Naia 3 departure area.

“This is another trick employed by human traffickers to facilitate the travel of their victims. Marriage certificates are procured for the victims, so they can leave accompanied by their fake spouses,” Mariñas said.
