After doing theater musicals, a year-long teleserye, performances onstage here and abroad and several concert tours, singer-actress Shiela Valderrama-Martinez remains pre-occupied for the next half of 2018, that busy may even be an understatement for her.
For the year 2017, Shiela headlined the critically acclaimed musical, Maynila Sa Kuko ng Liwanag, where she essayed the iconic role of Ligaya Paraiso. She also proved her versatility when she played Tatiana Racon in Comedy of Tenors for Repertory Philippines.
Shiela joined Morisette in the latter’s concert tours here and abroad. Moreover, Shiela did performances in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.
On television, Sheila got the chance to be part of the cast of ABS-CBN’s widely followed teleserye, Wildflower, where she was critically acclaimed for playing the feisty Atty. Georgina Fischer, who represents Maja Salvador.
Presently, Shiela is slated to topbill a new stage production, Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical, where she plays the female lead of Lily De la Rosa. Directed by Joel Lamangan and written by Ricky Lee, Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical tells the story of how Lily, a Filipina nightclub singer in pre-Martial Law Manila, embarks on a journey of great love and heartache.
With music by Von De Guzmán and choreography by Douglas Nierras, Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical spans two decades and two countries. The production explores how love overcomes even times of racial prejudices and political turmoil, enduring years of waiting and absence, only to grow deeper and change the lives of everyone.
Playing Shiela’s leading men are Arman Ferrer, Floyd Tena, David Ezra and Noel Rayos. Other cast members are Lorenz Martinez, Ima Castro, and Tuesday Vargas. Alternating with Shiela as Lily is Carla Guevara. Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical goes onstage starting June 29 at The Theater at Solaire. It runs until July 8.
Shiela, the newest ambassador of Facial Care Center, will also reprise her role of Kapitana Mary Jane in the sixth season of Rak of Aegis, which runs from today until Sept. 2 at the PETA Theater. On July 14, Shiela will guest in the concert of Morisette at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City. She also joins Morisette’s local concert tour.
Come Sept. 28, Shiela will play the lead in the upcoming musical, Guadalupe, at the Meralco Theater. To be directed by Baby Barredo, written by Joel Trinidad and music by Ejay Yatco, Guadalupe is produced by Julie Borromeo Performing Arts Foundation, Inc.
