More help is on the way for Barangay Ginebra.
In a swift transaction, the Gin Kings have completed a deal to acquire Jeff Chan from Phoenix in exchange for a for their first round pick in the coming Philippine Basketball Association Draft this November.
Needing more firepower to salvage their campaign in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup, Ginebra made a move to add a proven shooter in Chan.
The veteran gunner, who was once a National team mainstay, will add much needed outside firepower for the Gin Kings, who have a loaded frontcourt.
As of this moment, Barangay Ginebra holds a 3-win, 5-loss and needs to win all its remaining games in order to make the quarterfinals.
Ginebra hopes Chan’s addition to its backcourt can be a huge boost.
Ginebra will be Chan’s third team after starting his career with Rain or Shine, where he shone in his nine-year stint, and spending the past year at Phoenix.
So far this conference, Chan is averaging 11.6 points with four rebounds and four assists.
The Gin Kings were just coming off 104-84 annihilation of Magnolia Sunday night to save their campaign.
Yesterday, Chan still attended Phoenix’s practice in the morning before eventually heading to the Ginebra camp after being informed of the sudden development.
