Apolinario said two cohorts of the suspects remained at large and now the subject of a police manhunt operation.

Prior to the arrest, the Parañaque City police station received a call from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office reporting an alleged case of illegal detention involving Chou Yin-Chin, 37, a Chinese tourist who arrived in Manila only last Monday.

Initial investigation showed that Yin-Chin owed the suspects P300,000 loan after he played at a casino. It stated that the suspects demanded Yin-Chin’s relatives in Taipei to pay the loan in exchange for his release.

“The relatives sought the help of Teco for police assistance leading to the suspects’ arrest,” said Apolinario. “©

The suspects are now detained at the Parañaque City Police Station and will be charged with illegal detention before the city prosecutor’s office.

Apolinario said the Bureau of Immigration would be furnished a copy of the incident report to determine if the suspects and the victims are legally staying in the country.
