Caruana rocked the standings after he brought down solo leader Viswanathan Anand in 50 moves of a Petroff Defense.

So drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in 80 moves of a Sicilian Najdorf while Carlsen halved his point with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in 50 moves of a Ruy Lopez Opening.

On the other hand Nakamura stopped Sergey Karjakin in 41 moves of an English Opening.

Anand now shares third place with 3.5 points, with Mamedyarov and Levon Aronian.

The game drew a lot of attention when Anand, playing white took on Caruana who played well with his favorite Petroff Defence game.

Caruana surpised Anand when he advanced on the kingside with his g- and f-pawn,

The risky move gave Caruana control of the kingside which he deftly protected with a knight on e3.

Anand grabbed two pawns during an exchange of pieces, but his king got exposed.

Caruana then forced his rival to resign after he forced Anand’s king to flee from a threatening a queen.

Meanwhile, So made a move to attack the queenside with his pawns before it was repulsed and was forced to a draw by Vachier-Lagrave.
