Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales on Wednesday commended the Philippine National Police for the immediate arrest of a suspect in the senseless killing of assistant state prosecutor Madonna Joy Tanyag.
“ASP Tanyag is known to her colleagues as a hardworking and tough prosecutor handling high-profile cases,” she said.
“The Office again express its deepest condolences to her family and loved ones,” she added.
At around 11:20 am Monday, after attending a hearing at the Sandiganbayan, Tanyag parked her car along Visayas Avenue in Barangay Vasra just to buy milk tea.
When she returned to her vehicle, an unidentified man attacked and stabbed her three times.
Tanyag, who was five months pregnant, was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Police said robbery was the motive behind the killing of Tanyag.
They have arrested Angelito Avenido as the principal suspect in the crime.
