Malacañang appointed Emil Aquino as head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, replacing Teresita Herbosa. Aquino will have a fixed term of seven years.
President Rodrigo Duterte first appointed Aquino in December 2016 as SEC commissioner, marking his return to the SEC where he rose through the ranks to become the youngest director of the former Prosecution and Enforcement and Non-Traditional Securities and Instruments Departments.
Aquino was a practicing CPA-lawyer based in Western Mindanao for over a decade. He taught commercial law subjects in Ateneo de Zamboanga and Western Mindanao State University.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce major in accounting, magna cum laude and valedictorian at the Universidad de Zamboanga in 1984. He finished his law studies at the San Beda College.
