The PNP Responders maintained their lead in the UNTV Cup Off Season Executive Face-Off after crushing the GSIS Thunder Furies, 98-50, on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
After GSIS claimed a three-point lead in the first quarter, PNP retaliated with a huge 26-0 run in the second, where the Furies never recovered from as the Responders grabbed their fourth win in as many starts.
But despite the loss, Thunder Furies remained in high spirits because the players showed great improvement from their debut game.
“I really motivated them and during practice, they made me perform my job as the head coach. They wanted me to get angry when I made them execute our plays during practices. So, during our practice this week, I really pushed them hard with the press break, so it was effective. We had a good first quarter,” said GSIS coach Reneboy Banzali.
PSupt Anthony Padua and PSupt Ieneo Dalogdog emerged as the Best Players of the Game after finishing a combined 30 points for the Responders.
“I told them (Responders) to enjoy the game, but don’t treat it lightly. Kung ano ‘yung nilalaro natin, gawin lang. Isipin natin malakas ang GSIS kaya tuluy-tuloy lang ang game,” PNP Responders coach Alfred Suarez said.
Meanwhile, Atty. Armando Sanchez Jr. and Director Nikki Laure led the Ombudsman Graft Busters in clinching their second victory after clipping the DOJ Justice Boosters in the second game, 69-61.
Sanchez and Laure were named the Best Players of the Game after scoring 22 and 16 points, respectively.
The Judiciary Magis, meanwhile, tallied a 3-1 win loss record after routing the Malacanang-PSC Kamao in the main game, 81-41.
Joey Yabut and Judge Gerard Manuel Tomacruz were adjudged Best Players of the Game, with 19 and 14 points, respectively.
Malacañang-PSC Kamao and the GSIS Thunder Furies both face elimination if they continue to remain at the bottom of the standings.
