Ombudsman Morales richer by P17.7-million in 7 years in office

The net worth of Conchita Carpio-Morales has increased by P17.778 million after spending seven years as head of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Based on her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, Morales’ net worth totaled  P58.527 million as of December 2017, or P17.778 million more than her P40.479-million net worth in 2011.

Her SALN in 2016 reached P54.13 million.

In her latest SALN, Morales declared P58.615 million worth of assets, including a memorial lot bought in 1977 and three residential lots in Muntinlupa City in 1977.

She was also able to acquire a house in Muntinlupa City, a house and lot in Lemery in 2001, a memorial lot in 2003, and condominium units in Manila, Taguig City, Baguio City and Makati City in 1999, 2008, 2011 and 2013, respectively.

Based on her recent SALN, she had assets in cash investments of P35.028 million, including cash on hand, retirement benefits, pension and cooperative investments.

She had P88,000 in outstanding balance as liability from Rustan’s for a “personal item.”

At her SALN, she declared that her son, Eugenio Morales III, was a Register of Deeds land examiner, brother Emmanuel Carpio was a Davao City judge and nephew Waldo Carpio was a Department of Agriculture assistant secretary.

Morales is retiring on July 26 after serving a full seven-year term.

Then President Benigno Aquino III appointed Morales to head the Office of the Ombudsman in 2010.
