WORLD-CLASS Filipino hospitality will be showcased when the much-awaited 17th World University Golf Championship kicks off on Tuesday15 at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga.
President Duterte will be represented by Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Ramon Fernandez during the 4 p.m. opening ceremony of the event hosted by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines.
First round action tees off the following day, May 16.
Tweny-one countries, including host Philippines, are taking part in the prestigious competition sanctioned by the FISU (Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire)
The participating countries are Argentina, Australia, China, Czech, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nepal, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, Chinese-Taipei, and the United States.
Fernandez will be joined by WUGC organizing committee chairman /honorary president David Ong, WUGC OC chief executive officer Mike Singgaran, FESSAP chairman Alvin Tai Lian, FESSAP president Baldomero Estenzo, Philippine team head of delegation Angel Ngu and FESSAP executive Danilo Madlansacay.
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda and Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, who are co-hosing the event, are also expected to grace the occasion, along with Tourism Promotions Board head Cesar Montano.
"We’re happy to welcome some of the best university golfers from all over the world. The WUGC will give our province a well-deserved international sports exposure and help promote tourism in our country,” said Mayor Pineda-Cayabyab.
"We look forward togiving these student-athletes and team officials a taste of Filipino hospitality during their stay in Pampanga."
Members of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc., the FESSAP Institution-affiliate, are also invited to attend the four-day competition.
The other WUGC OC officials are Marius Aseron, Emmanuel Edward Co, Benito Techico, and Rolando M. Romero, FESSAP executive vice president Prof.Robert Milton Calo and Dr. Diosdado Amante, Joseph Sy, finance officer Annie Rodas, comptroller Raquel Padilla Lim and executive secretary Cecille Sarmiento.
