In a world dominated by Spotify, iTunes, and modern music apps, nothing beats the organic feeling of classic listening-through-the-radio kind of thing and having the radio stations blast out music from bands people have come to love years ago.

Take Sandwich, for example.

More than a thousand concertgoers trooped to the Metrotent in Pasig to join members of Sandwich celebrate a remarkable career milestone.

Music consumers from different generations have grown up learning and knowing all the lyrics to “Sugod,” “Betamax” and jammed to the band’s other tunes. Its songs have become anthems and people couldn’t stop listening to them. That even now, with the rise of music artists stealing the limelight, people still can’t help but to bob their heads along whenever a song of Sandwich is played in the background.

And gladly, the talented men behind the band are still doing what they love to do – play and make music.

The band recently made a comeback, a fitting celebration that marked its 20th anniversary with the theme “Under the Glow of the Satellite.”

Showered with different achievements throughout its music career, the band relived the moments of its journey with songs that have made history in the Philippines’ local rock music, not stopping at the accomplishments it already had, but rather continuing to have fun in what the members love the most — music.

Sandwich never bowed down or gave up in the wave of new music artists or genres. The alternative-rock band challenged itself through the obstacles that it has to face – and came down to its special 20th anniversary concert held on April 13 at the Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City, a show, which according to the band’s frontman Raymund Marasigan, took them eight month to prepare.

It was a night full of nostalgic songs that made up the childhood of a generation that grew up together with the band.

“So, it’s been 20 years…feels like 19,” Marasigan quips and appeals to the members of the crowd who have their mobile phones in their hands, “I want you to experience the show. You can take a few pictures but we’d rather have you experience [the concert] like the way we do it years ago. We want to perform for you not to the people on social media.”

Also, it was a night full of reminiscing and reliving memories that Sandwich has taken a part of, especially on the music scene.

But not only that, it was a night of remarkable milestones, too. As it celebrated its 20 years, Sandwich released “Time Lapse,” a special anniversary single, which hints another chapter its already successful music journey.

Apart from the single, the band will be releasing 3 more songs throughout the year, also planning to release a full-length album.

Another bright and promising future awaits the members of the band as they’ve seen the phenomenal feedback both from fans and fellow artists about their recently concluded concert. And Sandwich wouldn’t stop there, it will continue moving forward amid the changing times and trend in music.
