San Buenaventura Power Ltd. Co. led by Meralco PowerGen Corp. expects a two- to three-month delay in the construction of a 455-megawatt, coal-fired power plant in Mauban, Quezon.

Meralco PowerGen president Rogelio Singson told reporters Wednesday the construction at SBPL in Mauban was now on the 28th month of its 42-monthconstruction period.

“Our EPC work is estimated at about 84 percent accomplishment as of March. We are potentially looking at 2 to 3 months delay because of some late turnovers,” Singson said.

SBPL, a joint venture between Meralco PowerGen, a unit of Manila Electric Co., and New Growth BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Electricity Generating Public Co. Ltd. of Thailand, tapped Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corp. as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.

“In my discussions with Daelim, they were saying that they did not anticipate that the weather (in December) in that peninsula is different from the rest of Luzon,” Singson said.
