Cagayan bet rules CEZA chess tourney

TUGUEGARAO CITY—Cagayan bet Jesus Anastacio topped CEZA’s First Invitational Chess Open Tournament held recently at the Cagayan National High School here with a front-running score of 6.5 points.

Anastacio finished the Swiss system tournament half a point ahead of Nueva Vizcaya’s Francis Panlilio and San Pablo’s (Isabela) Robert Mania, who came in second and third, respectively.

Administrator and CEO of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority, Sec. Raul L. Lambino, thanked the 91 chessers entered in the second tournament that make up CEZA’s current summer sports spectacle.

“We are encouraged by the terrific response by players and fans to our invitational tournaments,” said Lambino in a statement.

The first CEZA Invitational Chess Tournament, which drew 91 participants, came off the wraps on April 14 and 15 at the Cagayan National High School in Tuguegarao City. He was represented here by Engr. Art Libot of CEZA.

Other finishers in the Top 10 were Roberto Bitamor Jr., Renolph Remudaro and Benedict Sta. Maria, all of this city, who occupied fourth to the sixth spots.

The seventh to 10th places went to Tom Fabella (Nueva Vizcaya), Ivan Cholo Ariola (Ilagan City), Jojo Foz and Aaraon Cabalza, both of Tuguegarao City.

Over the weekend, CEZA’s first motocross championship held jointly with the Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association produced a winner in Kenneth San Andres.
