ABS-CBN DocuCentral’s documentary ’Di Ka Pasisiil on the Marawi siege won a Gold World Medal at the 2018 New York Festivals World’s Best TV & Films (NYF), leading the Kapamilya winners in the prestigious competition.
Reporters Jeff Canoy and Chiara Zambrano received the award in a ceremony held in Las Vegas, USA on April 10. The documentary won the top award in the category of Coverage of a Continuing News Story.
The country’s leading media and entertainment company also won a Silver World Medal in the Cinematography category for the documentary Local Legends: Bandurria of ANC, and a Bronze World Medal in the Station/Image Promotion category for ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management’s “To Love and To Serve” campaign.
In his Twitter post, Canoy dedicated their award to their fellow reporters and soldiers and civilians in Marawi, where he and Zambrano broke news from the warzone.
“Still surreal. This Gold World Medal from the New York Festivals is for our troops who fought the fight, for the people of Marawi who continue to show us courage & for our fellow Filipino journalists who continue to tell our stories like only we can,” Canoy stated.
Zambrano also vowed to continue following their stories as they heal from the physical, mental, and emotional wounds brought to them by the war.
“This award we share with all of these heroes, and this is also our commitment to them that we will stick by them and continue to tell their stories as they rebuild their lives,” she said in her acceptance speech.
Di Ka Pasisiil first aired on Aug. 13 last year three months after the siege of Marawi began. The documentary told stories about how the war changed the landscape in the Islamic state and how the government’s brave soldiers defended Marawi from the terror group.
A “Mukha” episode of the same title, which featured personal accounts of Canoy and Zambrano as they covered the war, also made it as finalist in the NY Festivals.
ANC’s Local Legends: Bandurria, meanwhile, focused on the life and craft of a master guitar-maker in Pampanga, while “To Love and To Serve” poetically expressed the love of a “Kapamilya,” and how ABS-CBN is committed to serve Filipinos through its various services and products.
These NY Festival awards add to the growing number of recognitions received by ABS-CBN News in 2018 for its programs, campaigns, anchors, and journalists.
