Herbert vows more aid for QC students

QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Tuesday encouraged students to pursue their dream professions and vowed to extend more help to them.

He called on the students to do what they think is best for them, most especially now that the city government is doing its best to provide more school buildings and facilities for senior high school as well as college scholarships.

“The government and I myself, too, would want that there would be no more reason why a senior high school student and the rest of our youth could not go to college amid a free college education,” Bautista said.

“I am telling you this to the graduating elementary students so that they would hold on to their dream. Don’t go changing. Pursue your dream [education],” he added.

Over 42,000 students shall graduate from public elementary schools in the city, while there will be 33,000 in public junior high schools, and close to 4,000 from senior high school.

He cited access to college education has become easier with the enactment of Republic Act 10931 otherwise known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act providing free tuition and other school fees in state universities and colleges, local universities and colleges and state-run technical-vocational institutions.

Meanwhile, the 37-member Quezon City council has approved a resolution urging the House of Representatives to pass a law penalizing the informant or the person who supplies wrong information in the entries of birth certificate, marriage certificate and other documents in the local registry office.

City Resolution 7338-2018 seeks to avoid delayed registration.
