THE thrills and frills of obstacle course racing are about to be set into high gear.
Organizers will start holding and staging the first of three major races, dubbed as the Allianz Conquer Challenge, next month.
The first race is slated on May 13 at the Vermosa in Daang Hari, Imus, Cavite.
Conquer Challenge president Rob Afzelius said their series of races will allow enthusiasts to enjoy a mix of sporting activities that are of a higher level and acceptable to all.
“I believe that this is an evolution of adventure racing and other sports, with something higher and acceptable,” said Afzelius during yesterday’s press conference at the Allianz Philippine National Bank Life offices in Ayala Ave., Makati.
Afzalius talked about their events during the Conquer Challenge launch with Philippine Obstacle Sports Federation president Alberto Agra, Allianz chief operating officer Alexander Grenz, Allianz Chief Marketing Management officer Gae Martinez, their branding communications and digital director Rei Abrazaldo.
Afzelius said they are reaching the 500 mark in their list of entries, believing that they could reach the 1,000 mark next month.
There will be different set of races.
Participants can join the elite division, known as the Conquer Challenge Power Race, which is a 7 km run and 20 obstacles race.
There’s also the open category, which is for beginners, and is 3 kms long and has 12 obstacles.
For kids, there’s the 13-year-old and up open division, and the 7-12 yrs old kid section. Its distance is 7 kms and has at least 7 obstacles.
Allianz also announced its partnership with two other events coinciding with the Conquer Challenge. They are Allianz’s partnership with the Philippine Heart Association for the PHA Heart Run, and a Bayanihan Walk happening in Singapore for the Filipino community there.
