ACTOR Dingdong Dantes is likely to join the congressional race in Quezon City’s District 2 in the 2019 elections.
Dantes surprised residents of Barangay Commonwealth when he visited barangay officials Wednesday evening.
Manuel Co, Barangay Commonwealth chairman, welcomed and introduced Dantes, and even announced the actor’s congressional candidacy in front of his barangay councilors, purok leaders and presidents of different homeowners’ associations, city hall sources told the Manila Standard.
“Dantes just made a thumbs-up sign when Co announced his political bid,” one of the sources said.
Residents and the actors’ fans alike were taken aback by Dantes’ arrival.
The actor told the crowd he came just “to raise the awareness of the people about the government agencies’ hotlines,” added one Standard source, requesting anonymity.
Dantes would be running against former child actress and broadcast journalist Precious Hipolito-Castelo, wife of three-term Rep. Winston Castelo, and Councilor Ranulfo Ludovica.
