THE Quezon City government on Monday gave Mayor Herbert Bautista the green light to donate P12 million to four towns of Batanes that were struck by a strong typhoon.
Councilors passed a resolution authorizing Bautista to extend P12 million in financial assistance to Basco, Ivana, Itbayat and Mahatao in the province of Batanes that were affected by super typhoon “Ferdie.”
The allocation shall be taken from the city’s disaster risk reduction and management fund subject to existing laws, rules and regulations.
“Ferdie” hit Northern Luzon in 2016 and was considered the strongest typhoon that ever hit the province of Batanes, classified as a category 4 storm.
The city government’s humanitarian and financial support has been approved by the city’s DRRMC.
The Batanes mayors requested Bautista to extend financial assistance for the repair and restoration of their various government infrastructure and facilities.
The transfer of the fund was allowed under Section 1, Rule 1 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
The fund amounting to P12,092,307 will cover the cost of the following projects:
1. Repair of Ivatan Lodge in the municipality of Basco;
2. Repair and rehabilitation of Itbayat District Hospital building 1 and 2, ward and nurse station and safe motherhood building in Itbayat;
3. Rehabilitation of Ivana municipal building;
4. Repair and rehabilitation of day care center and seaport-seawall in Mahatao.
