THE Philippine National Police on Tuesday asked the public to be more prudent in posting their whereabouts on social media this Holy Week as that might tip off criminals.

National Capital Region Police Office spokeswoman Kimberly Molitas said the public should avoid sharing their locations through #ATM or “at the moment” posts as that might alert thieves that their homes were not guarded.

“We have been repeating this time and again, especially to our parents, to manage their children using social media,” Molitas told reporters.

“Based on our experience, it’s the posting of these itineraries that allows criminals to monitor if you are not in your house.”

Molitas made her statement even as Malacañang on Tuesday suspended all work in government offices, classes in the public schools and state universities, and work in government-owned and -controlled corporations at noon today, Wednesday.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued a memorandum suspending work starting 12 noon on March 28, but it will be work as usual for all law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio has declared a half-day work at the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals today, Wednesday.

The high court’s Public Information Office also announced that the half-day work will also be in effect at the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court and the Court of Tax Appeals.

But the courts in Manila City are exempted from the half-day work because Mayor Joseph Estrada had already declared March 28 as a no-work day.

Many Filipinos are expected to go on vacation this Holy Week, and the NCRPO said the public must make sure their homes were well-secured in their absence.

Molitas also advised the public to ensure that their houses were safe from fire while they were away.

She said about 12,000 Metro Manila police officers would be deployed around the capital to boost security. Vito Barcelo and Rey E. Requejo
