The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Friday destroyed some P2.56 billion worth of dangerous drugs in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martirez City in Cavite.
PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said destroyed through thermal decomposition were a total of 1,012,445.11 grams (1,012.4 kg.) of assorted pieces of drugs, including methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” marijuana, ephedrine, cocaine, toluene, chloromethamphetamine hydrochloride, and expired medicines.
Thermal decomposition, or thermolysis, is the process, by which various compounds are broken down into single units by the application of heat. The reconstruction of the substances is impossible through this process.
Aquino led the destruction of the illegal drugs that were recently ordered by the court to be destroyed.
For the past six months, a total of P9.14 billion worth of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals has already been destroyed.
In a related development, a total of P50m worth of shabu were seized during a buy-bust operation conducted by combined elements of the PDEA and the PNP-Drug Enforcement Group on Friday at a high-end mall in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City on Friday.
Arrested during the operation were suspects Norodian Guimadel Samplidan, 28; Lady Jane Flores Borja, 24; and Regina Inocencia San Miguel, 40.
When searched, the suspects yielded five packs of suspected 10 kilograms of memthamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P50 million.
The operation was conducted around 12 noon at the Parking 5, Alabang Town Center, Ayala Alabang.
