Justice Secretary Vitaliano II on Tuesday vowed to file a complaint for libel against Senator Risa Hontiveros who called him a “manufacturer of fake news” and “cook of fake cases”
“You could see libel cases filed against her,” Aguirre said, in a text message.
Aguirre claimed that Hontiveros issued libelous and defamatory statement against him.
On Monday, Hontiveros called for Aguirre’s resignation following the dismissal of the drug cases against businessman Peter Lim and the provisional admission into the government’s Witness Protection Program of suspected pork barrel scam architect Janet Lim Napoles.
She described Aguirre as “manufacturer and peddler of fake news,” “cook of fake cases” and “a reliable friend of criminal masterminds, extrajudicial killers and drug lords.”
Last year, the lady senator had demanded Aguirre’s ouster after exposing an alleged plot to file cases against her.
Aguirre said that he has a strong case to hold Hontiveros criminally liable for libel for her remarks made on Monday.
“There is no need to study [the filing of a complaint for libel]. Very clear [that what she said was] defamatory. I saw and heard what she said,” the Justice secretary said.
Aguirre vowed to file the complaint “very soon.”
