Fake news? SAP draws flak over bogus endorser

SPECIAL Assistant to the President Christopher Go’s publicity stunt drew flak after the Presidential Communications Operations Office admitted that a live radio interview with President Rodrigo Duterte endorsing Go to run for a Senate seat in the 2019 elections was “fake.”

President Duterte has publicly endorsed his trusted close-aide Bong Go and Presidential spokesman Harry Roque as his senatorial candidates in next year’s elections.

But the radio interview with Bong Go and “Duterte” raised eyebrows after learning that the endorser was a Duterte “voice impersonator.”

In an official PCOO transcript, President Duterte told radio dzRH radio anchors Deo Macalma and Cherryl Adami that “he [Bong Go] enjoys so, you know, the trust and confidence, he has the full blanket authority from the President.”

However, the PCOO said there was a mistake in sending the title of the transcription, which read as “The transcription titled ‘Interview with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’ by Deo Macalma and Rica Herrera over dzRH on March 19, 2018 should read ‘Interview with Impersonator of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’”.

In the interview, Go said he was glad the President called the radio station and thanked the “President” for his support.

PCOO observed that Go was really looking forward to run in the 2019 elections as he allowed himself to use a “fake boss” to endorse him openly over radio interviews.

Supporters of Go officially launched in Intramuros, Manila a movement encouraging him to stand in the 2019 elections.

The campaign, dubbed “Ready, Set, Go!” is not a launch of Go’s candidacy but a campaign for him to join the senatorial race next year, according to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar.
