Palace confirms Cabinet revamp being considered

PRESIDENTIAL Spokesman Harry Roque on Friday confirmed a possible revamp of the Cabinet following President Rodrigo Duterte’s  pronouncement he was dismayed with the performance of some of its members.

But Roque did not say when the revamp would take place or name the officials who would be affected by it.

“He really said he was not happy with some of the secretaries, and that there would be changes in the Cabinet,” Roque said in a TV interview.

Talk of a revamp started after Duterte said he would replace Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II if the charges against alleged drug lords Peter Lim and Kerwin Espinosa were dismissed.

But Roque said Duterte’s statement should not be taken seriously because he continued to trust Aguirre.

Duterte has already fired two Cabinet secretaries: Ismael Sueño of the Interior department and Rodolfo Salalima of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

He also removed Commission on Higher Education Chairwoman Patricia Licuanan and Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor Chairman Terry Ridon for his alleged excessive travels abroad.

“We are serious about the drive against corruption,” Roque said.
